Spreadin' the LOVE...

If you haven't been downtown to see the Reel LOVE sculpture yet, you are really missing out. This incredible art installation is quickly becoming a Culpeper hot spot, and I love that people are using this beautiful piece of art for good (more on that in a bit). It's all about spreadin' the love...

During the summer of 2012, Roque Castro, founder of Yesterday Reclaimed, was commissioned by the Culpeper Department of Tourism to create the towns first large-scale art installation in conjunction with a grant issued by Virginia Tourism Corporation to promote their “love is at the heart of every Virginia vacation” campaign. The challenge was to spell the word LOVE using 120 metal film reels donated by the Library of Congress’ Packard Campus. After the final design was chosen, Roque assembled a build team of local craftsmen, artists and designers, who all came forth willing to donate their time and skill set to the endeavor. Five months and over 1000 man-hours later, the end result was a sculpture fittingly named “Reel LOVE” that stands over 8 feet tall anchored in a prominent park in the historic downtown area next to the Culpeper Train Depot. The project not only highlights Culpeper as an art destination, but also showcases our town’s spirit of community and collaboration amongst the artists, craftsmen, local businesses, government and patrons of the art. Now, onto the people using the sculpture for good. This Saturday, March 23rd, the Yowell Stompin' Stallions Relay for Life Team will be hosting a fundraiser at the sculpture. Come downtown to the Reel LOVE art installation between 9:30 & 11:30am and get your picture taken by Rearview Photography, a local photographer, who is generously donating her time to help raise money for Relay for Life. All you need to bring is your smile and a $5 donation, and you will receive one edited picture (via email)! Check out the details below:

I'm thinking this is perfect for all you newly engaged/newly wed/newly in love/new families out there! What do you think? These pictures could be Christmas card material, people! What an awesome opportunity, and you can't beat the price! Plus, after you get your picture taken, jump on the opportunity to stroll through the downtown shops and restaurants.

BONUS: if you get your picture taken at the sculpture and then come tell us about it at the roost, you'll get 10% off your total purchase! How 'bout them apples?

Hope to see everyone downtown this Saturday!
